Pre-School

The Pre-schoolers, our 3-4 year olds, learn through well-planned and unstructured play with opportunities to explore in the excellent outdoor play area, developing independent skills whilst accessing free flow provision, as well as starting some more gently structured activities to help ease their transition into the Reception Class . They have subject specialist sessions during term time for PE, Music, Dance, Drama and Library time, and continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in the seven areas of learning.

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

The Pre-School teacher and staff are well-qualified and experienced and the staff:pupil ratio is very generous, enabling us to offer teaching, supervision and care of the highest quality. The Pre-School staff work closely with staff in Reception and Years 1 and 2 and from time to time the Pre-Schoolers join in activities, assemblies and concerts with the older children. Staff welcome contact with parents and actively encourage close co-operation between home and the Nursery.

There is a simple uniform in the Pre-School Room for those completing hours above the free entitlement from Suffolk County Council.
Children can attend for morning, afternoon, full-day or school day sessions. Children wear clothes which are comfortable and practical for an active day.

After the Pre-School Class, the children move seamlessly onto Reception, having been really well prepared in the Pre-School Room. For more information about the Ipswich Prep School, please see the School website.
When your child is approaching the time when they will move to Reception, we will invite you to visit the Prep and meet the staff.
